Red Lake Nation College Position Description
Position: College President Reports to: College Board of Trustees
Primary Function: The President will serve as Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for directing all activities and functions of the college. The President is responsible for the administration and management of the college. The President shall exercise broad discretionary powers within policies and regulations of the Red Lake Nation College, state and federal agencies, applicable accrediting bodies and other education regulatory entities. The President will provide visionary educational leadership which fosters productive relationships with various sectors of education, tribal communities and institutions, legislators, and other state and federal agencies that will enhance the college and its students.
Accountability: The President shall work under the direction of the Red Lake Nation College Board of Trustees and is directly responsible to the Board. The President shall administer the College in conformity with the approved policies of the Board, rules and regulations of the appropriate accreditation body, and applicable tribal, state and federal laws.
Responsibilities: The President plans, organizes and administers the day-to-day operations of the College. The President hires, supervises, and evaluates faculty and staff, or delegates those responsibilities appropriately. The President will work with other associates within the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians and may serve on tribal-wide committees.
The President will maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff. The President must have knowledge of Tribally-Controlled Community College educational philosophy and management, administrative practices and procedures, as well as college curricula and instructional programs. The President will also develop and maintain working relationships with associates from other educational institutions.
The President will work closely with the Board of Trustees as professional advisory to the Board and is in charge of the responsibility for implementing, administering, managing and monitoring the policies of the Board. The President makes recommendations to the Board regarding personnel, budgets, mission of the College, and is responsible for seeing that decisions of the Board are implemented in an organized, timely matter. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, student recruitment and retention, accreditation, staff hiring and development, College financial sustainability, budget management, and development of the College into a comprehensive institution of higher education. Specifically, the President will coordinate the strategic planning process and develop a strategic plan for the College. The President is also responsible for consistent monitoring of the budget throughout the fiscal year and to ensure compliance with the requirements of all funding agencies.
The President will facilitate a productive and positive work place for all employees, as well as an environment conducive to lifelong learning and respect for individuals. The President will be expected to lead the college by example and by motivating others to meet the challenges and opportunities as stated in the job duties.
Duties: · Visionary Leadership: The President will be expected to provide visionary leadership which fosters community both inside the college and with Native American and regional communities in support of the College’s mission to build a union of cultures. · Internal Leadership: The President will be expected to provide leadership towards the effort to serve the tribal membership and to achieve academic excellence that is reinforced by Anishinaabe values. Leadership practices will strive for excellence in human resource management, the professional growth of the faculty and staff and student population. · Campus Facilities: The President will provide leadership with the development and implementation of long-term campus capital projects envisioned for the College. The President will strive to ensure that state-of-the-art technology is incorporated throughout all campus facilities and programs. · Partnerships: The President will be expected to provide leadership and enhance the positive relationships that the college maintains with local educational institutions and with higher education institutions in the region. · Community Development: The President will provide leadership in assessing needs for current community educational programs that support the mission of the College and facilitate implementation of its goals and objectives. The President will provide leadership and support to facilitate the further development of new community instructional programs which support the long term vision of the College. · Student Services: The President will provide leadership by developing strategies that will stabilize enrollment trends and increase full-time student enrollment. The President will provide strong leadership towards the development of a student-centered culture that ensures access, sustains educational excellence, fosters student development, and supports high levels of student achievement. · Accreditation: The President will ensure that all accreditation standards are implemented throughout the institution and are adhered to.
Perform other duties as assigned or granted by the Board of Trustees or required by law.
Minimum Qualifications: · Education: Masters degree from an accredited institution; Doctorate preferred · Experience: Minimum of three to five years of successful senior level administrative experience in higher education or its equivalent Experience with accreditation process Demonstrated achievement in budgeting and financial management. Demonstrated success in organizational management Evidence of strong commitment to and support of student academic success Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff and faculty Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with tribal leaders and the community members Evidence of strong human relation and interpersonal skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Teaching experience at the post-secondary level Demonstrated sensitivity to indigenous culture and, in particular, the Anishinaabe culture Ability to effectively communicate the mission, philosophy, and goals of the College Experience in the use of education technology to promote teaching and learning Experience in conflict resolution Ability to build morale and to motivate and to relate to students, faculty, and staff Evidence of high personal and professional integrity characterized by flexibility, accessibility and accountability. |
